Auditions will be by cold reading and group work. No preparation is necessary. Please arrive at the start of the audition session and be prepared to stay 1-2 hours. Please bring a theatre resume if you have one.

Wyrd Sisters is a comedy fantasy based on the best-selling book of the same name by Terry Pratchett. It riffs off “Macbeth” but from the other side. The evil Duke has killed the king and taken over the kingdom, and it is up to the three witches to save the day and restore peace and justice.

Apart from the first seven characters, most actors will probably be “doubling” at least two parts, maybe more. 

Roughly in order of part size: 

Granny Weatherwax - F 60-100. Senior Witch. Strict, proper, sharp-tongued, manipulative, but also clever, fair and just. Very clear ideas of how the world should be. Formidable mental and magical powers, but sometimes unfamiliar with the wider world. 

Nanny Ogg- F 40-70 Middle Witch. Earthy, crude, vulgar, but also clever, good natured, practical and powerful. Matriarch of a huge family. 

Magrat Garlick- F 18-25 Junior Witch. Dreamy, naive, eager. Loves folk wisdom, trees, bunnies, and wearing occult jewellery. Wishes people would be nicer to each other. Not yet discovered her own strength. 

Duke Felmet- M 30-50. New ruler of the kingdom following the king's "accidental” death. Mean, nasty, insecure.

Duchess- F 30-50 Wife of Felmet and the power behind the throne. Very cruel. Also unashamedly ruthless, ambitious and uncaring. 

Fool- M 18-25 Graduate of the Guild of Fools and Duke Felmet's court jester for life. Purveyor of bad jokes and jesterly advice. But also smarter than he looks. 

Late King Verence- M 40-?? Former ruler of the kingdom. Very upset about his untimely death, now haunting the castle as a ghost and seeking revenge from beyond the grave. 

Tomjon- M 18-25 Skilled and charismatic lead actor of the strolling players and possibly heir to the throne. 

Vitoller - M 30-60 Charming, golden- voiced and persuasive. Manager of the strolling players 

Hwel- M 20-80 Intense and brilliant playwright of the strolling players 

Mrs Vitoller- F 30-60 Wife of Vitoller 

Also: Various members of the band of strolling players, Sergeant, Chamberlain, Creature from the Dungeon Dimensions, Peasants, Guards, Soldiers, Robbers etc. all of various ages and genders.
